The 6 basic components of nonlistening include pseudolistening (pretending to listen to someone ), monopolizing (focusing communication on ourselves), selective listening (focusing on particular pieces of communicaiton), defensive listening (criticism/personal attacks within communication), ambushing (listening to content of communication to attack that speaker), and literal listening (listening to contact and ignoring the emotions that come with the relationship between the speaker and listener).
