Media Illustrations Dimensions of Romantic Relationships

Dimensions of Romantic Relationships
Megan Goeden

For my presentation I am explaining the dimensions of romantic relationships, including: passion, commitment, and intimacy. These three dimensions all overlap each other in healthy relationships and are important balances to interaction between partners.

Passion describes intensely positive feelings and fervent desire for another person (Woods 2012). I used a scene from the notebook to show the passion between Noah and Ally. Passion is important in a relationship in order to express strong desire and compassion, but a relationship built on passion alone will not last.

Commitment is the intention to remain involved with a relationship. I used another scene from the notebook for this example. Noah and Ally are in a hospital years down the road and Noah is still by her side as she lays on her death bed. That is a great example of the way that you stay committed to someone that you care for.

Intimacy includes feelings of closeness, connection, and tenderness. Intimacy is a linked to both passion and commitment. Intimacy and passion both involve strong feelings and the link between intimacy and passion is commitment. You can't be committed to someone if you don't feel intimate toward them. I used a youtube video to show the meaning of intimacy. It was hard for me to decide but I feel like the video captures every aspect of an intimate relationship.
